Upper Mustang Trek

Upper Mustang Trek  known as Lo Manthang is a medieval town surrounded by high walls, bordering Tibet. The land is featured as a rain shadow area, with a dry and  rough terrain landscape resembling  the Tibetan plateau. This forbidden kingdom was allowed for  visitors only after 1992. Yet a special permit is required for  foreigners to visit the Upper Mustang areas. Mustang is a mystique land with  unique geographies, culture and traditions representing itself as a sacred Himalayan kingdom. This is the land of the Lobas, who are followers of Buddhism. This isolated kingdom respect their past king Jigme Paramal Bista today. Visitors are excited to visit Lo Manthang to meet the king and his five storied palace built around 1400. The high walls, Buddhist Gumbas, chortens, prayer flags, small houses decorates all surrounding areas.
The trekking to Mustang trekking is a tea house trekking with easy trail starting from Jomsom to  Lo- Manthang, a region behind Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. The trail explores the areas of Jomsom, Kagbeni, the deepest George made by the Kali Gandaki river. You will have a splendid view of high peaks, go through extreme passes, moraines valleys, barren landscapes, grazing pasture land. It is truly one of the rewarding opportunity to experience centuries back civilization and traditions. Lots of visitors are also highly inquisitive in learning an unexplored old cave dwelling hidden within the hills of this desert country.

Main Attraction:

Fly to Jomsom and trek  to Kagbeni, start the trek according to the itinerary, after explorin to the Lo Manthang, from Jomsom fly back or trek to Pokhara.

The Route:
Max altitude 3540m, Lo Manthang, trek starts after breakfast everyday, moderate trail.

Best Season:

Sep to Dec, Feb to May.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel.

Day 02
: Sightseeing around Kathmandu and basic preparation for upcoming trek.

Day 03: 
Drive to Jomsom via Pokhara and trek to Kagbeni(2800m)

Day 04: Kagbeni to Chele (3050m)

Day 05:
 Chele to Geling (3500m)

Day 06: Geling to Charang (3620m)

Day 07: Charang to Lo Manthang (3540m)

Day 08: Exploration Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar

Day 09: Lo Manthang to Ghar Gompa (3920m)

Day 10: Ghar Gompa to Ghiling (3500m)

Day 11:Ghiling to Chele (3110m)

Day 12: Chele to Jomsom (3720m)

Day 13: Back to your destination.   


Day 14: Fly back to Kathmandu or head towards other destination.
